PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE

Frederick Ato Armah is a Professor of Environmental and Sustainability Science. He is currently the Director of Research and Programmes at the Association of African Universities. He has over 20 years work experience in the higher education sector and has reviewed for over 60 international journals. He is a fellow of the prestigious Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

TEACHES SOCIOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

Akosua K. Darkwah teaches Sociology at the University of Ghana. Her editorial work includes: editorial board member of Gender and Society (2014-2016), co-editor of Ghana Studies (2013-2016), editor for African Studies Review (2020-2026) and Feminist Africa (2023-) as well as Managing Editor of Ghana Journal of Sociology and Anthropology (2020-2026).

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION SCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
PRETORIA

Elizabeth le Roux is a Professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, where she coordinates the Publishing Studies programme. Her research focuses on the history of publishing and book cultures in Southern Africa, with a particular interest in activist and university press publishing. She was previously Director of Unisa Press and remains involved in scholarly book and journal publishing in South Africa.

VICE PRESIDENT OF WOLLO UNIVERSITY

Professor Abebe Zegeye holds the degree of DPhil from the University of Oxford (UK) and BA in economics, philosophy and sociology from Haverford College. He has previously taught Yale University (USA), the University of California, the University of South Africa and CODESRIA (Senegal). Since 2014, he has been based in Ethiopia working as Vice President of Wollo University; Director, Global Engagement & Institutional Transformation, Woldia University; and director of Higher Education, Ministry of Science and Higher Education. At present, he is the co-director of Cradle: Center for Research and Development in Learning in Africa.

NISC (PTY) LTD

Mike Schramm is a former biologist, university lecturer, and published researcher. After a period in science teacher development, he transitioned to a publishing management role with an eminent schoolbook publishing company. Until 2023, Mike headed up NISC (Pty) Ltd, a specialist scholarly publisher in South Africa producing databases, books, and academic journals that showcase the best of African scholarship to a global research community. He continues to co-ordinate the company’s expanding scholarly book programme and is chairman of the board of directors. He is also a former director and chairman of African Journals Online (AJOL). He is the Executive Directive (designate) of the NISC Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation supported by NISC (Pty) Ltd that aims to bring new voices into the published literature and amplify the scholarship of the African continent.

SENIOR LECTURER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HARGEYSA, INSTITUTE FOR PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES

Dr Jama Musse Jama is an ethno-mathematician with a PhD in African Studies specialising in Computational Linguistics of African Languages, and author or editor of 19 books and 36 academic articles. His current research focuses on the role of heritage, art and culture in the development, peace building, and state formation, including settlements and cities expansion in Somaliland. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Dhaxalreeb – Somaliland Centre for African Studies Academic Journal. He is known for his research on traditional African games and their possible use within formal education. Founder and yearly organizer of the influential Hargeysa International Book Fair, and currently Director of the Hargeysa Cultural Centre in Somaliland, Dr. Jama has also a Senior Associate Researcher position at Italian’s National Research Council at Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale “Antonio Zampolli” (CNR-ILC), and a Lead Researcher at Somaliland Centre for African Studies. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Hargeysa, Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. A fellow of RVI, and the founder of Ponte Invisibile Ed, publishing arm of the Redsea Cultural Foundation in Italy and in Somaliland, and he can be reached @JamaMusse on X and other social media platforms.
