African Languages Poetry Anthology, Vol 1 has poetry from every region of the continent, poets writing and living in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Malawi. We have poems in 21 African languages: chiShona, chiChewa, isiXhosa, Sepedi,

Afrikaans, Arabic, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Nupe, Ewe, Bambara, Kiswahili, Gikuyu, Ekegusii, Kidawida, Lubukusu (Luhya dialect), Olushisa (Luhya dialect), Acholi (Luo dialect),isiNdebele, and Iloyi (Ejiri/Afo). Languages that predominates are Hausa, chiShona and chiChewa. The poets worked from their traditions and cultures to craft poems that deal with an array of human issues; from identity, culture, traditions, love, relationships, death, spirituality…, and the poems through translation into English still retained their essence: rich language, rich traditions and powerful thoughts that have guided each culture through the ages. This anthology is a preservation and celebration of our languages, cultures and humanity.
