    The Hurricurrent

    Floordogs

the evening, filled with breathable drops

and we, the two of us

in this lone partnership on this veering craft

    helmless, stone-walled

at least now there’s a veil,

    softening us and the bathwater,

you first then me, soaping myself in your aftermath,

opening our pores, shaking off the drops

and we are almost, almost able to look about

the way dogs who know each other simply look,

here’s a dog, there’s another one scratching its belly

with a hind paw, lying on the floor, getting up

to be nearer to another dog, also lying on the floor
